If anyone has a telescope they can bring and would like to
teach a bit about astronomy, please let me know.
Turtle Program at Hollywood beach
When:
Wednesday, July 14th. The program begins at 8:00
pm and ends around 9:45 pm.
What:
This event is for ages five and up. It's "turtle time"
again. Join Kids Ecology Corps as we witness the release of
(and sometimes get to touch) “new-born” sea turtle hatchlings.
After watching a short slide show presentation from local sea
turtle expert, we can carpool to the beach. Finally, we will
take to the water to watch as sea turtle hatchlings are
released while we help to ensure their safety. In South
Florida, sea turtles lay their eggs starting at the end of
May. We will be observing some of the first hatchlings of the
year.
Where:
Starting site is at the Anne
Kolb Nature Center. 751 Sheridan St., Hollywood, FL.
Directions to Anne Kolb: Take I-95 to Sheridan Street. Head
east toward the beach. It is 1.5 miles east of US 1 just
BEFORE the bridge. Look for sign and turn left into Anne
Kolb. Meet in the Mangrove Hall building. From there we will
drive a short bit to the beach. Bring quarters for parking
meters. (Parents: If you are not staying with your child,
pick-up will be at the beach itself. Take Sheridan Street to
the end and walk out on the beach.)
Cost:
$5 to cover administration fees of KEC and the sea turtle
program.
