Kids Ecology Corps – Butterflies, Moths and Their Habitat
http://www.kidsecologycorps.org
Butterflies, Moths and Their Habitat is presented by Kids Ecology Corps as part of the Snyder Park Restoration Project in partnership with the City of Fort Lauderdale, in cooperation with Hands On Broward. This program provides service learning opportunities for Broward County youngsters between 7-14 years old (and their adult chaperone).
Butterflies, Moths and Their Habitat is a fun-filled, educational program that will explore the nature of butterflies, moths and the connection between their life cycle stages and the specific plants they need. This program will include engaging, hands-on service learning activities followed by making two “no water necessary” terrariums to house butterfly-attracting plants:
– one to take home to start a butterfly garden
– one to leave at the Park to help beautify and populate the Butterfly Gardens at Snyder Park.
All materials are provided.
The program takes place the second Saturday of each month
from 9 am to 12 noon starting in May 2013.
May 11 * June 8 * July 13 * August 10
September 14 * October 12 * November 9 * December 14
Children must be accompanied by an adult. When you sign up, you will be asked for the names and ages of minors, so we can make sure every child is accompanied by an adult.
Weather permitting, activities will take place outdoors (and move indoors if there is rain). Your service experience will include a guided nature walk. It is best to wear long pants, socks and shoes, and a long-sleeved shirt. Bug spray and sunscreen are recommended. Water will be provided. A donation of unused gardening gloves of any size to support the restoration project at Snyder Park would be wonderful!
